Published: February 5, 2025
Shelby is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the original Mustang by reintroducing the GT350 and GT350R models. These updated versions of the seventh-generation Mustang feature a supercharged 5.0-liter 'Coyote' V8 engine, significantly boosting power—up to 840 horsepower in the GT350R, which is an impressive 88% increase compared to the previous model. While specific performance metrics like the 0-60 mph time are not disclosed, the standard Mustang achieves this in 4.4 seconds.
The GT350R is equipped with advanced features such as adjustable racing struts, upgraded suspension, and Alcon racing brakes to manage its increased power. Aesthetic enhancements include extensive use of carbon fiber in the body design. Inside, the vehicle sees an update with additional carbon fiber accents and a four-point roll cage. The GT350, though less powerful at 820 horsepower, still exceeds the performance of prestigious models like the McLaren Senna.
These performance-oriented vehicles start at a price of $109,995 for the GT350, with the GT350R's pricing yet to be announced.
From a transportation perspective, the revitalization of iconic models like the GT350 and GT350R reflects a broader trend in the automotive industry where manufacturers are blending classic appeal with cutting-edge technology. This strategy not only attracts enthusiasts who value heritage but also caters to a growing market for high-performance vehicles. As the electric vehicle landscape evolves, it's important for companies like Ford to continue innovating while respecting their legacy, creating a balance that appeals to both traditional and modern consumers.
