Almost all flights cancelled during next two days at Munich Airport

Published: March 7, 2025
Airlines have canceled about 80% of their flights to and from Munich Airport, totaling over 1,300 flights, due to a warning strike called by the ver.di service workers’ union. This industrial action, which involves workers at ground handling services among others, aims to increase pressure in ongoing negotiations regarding wages and working conditions for public-sector employees in Germany. Although the strike is set to conclude at midnight on Friday, further cancellations cannot be ruled out. Other public sector workers also joined in the strike across various locations, with Hamburg Airport reporting that only flights to and from Munich were affected. Travelers are advised to arrive early and, if possible, to travel with only hand baggage. From a transportation perspective, such strikes can significantly disrupt travel plans and logistics, highlighting the sensitivity of public infrastructure to labor disputes. Airports and airlines must have contingency plans in place to address unexpected disruptions and minimize passenger inconvenience. Enhancing communication with travelers is crucial during such events to ensure they are informed and can adapt their plans accordingly.
