Kenan Advantage Group Expands Dry Bulk Unit in Alabama

Published: March 7, 2025
Kenan Advantage Group (KAG), based in North Canton, Ohio, is expanding its dry bulk operations through the acquisition of Evergreen Transport, a Mobile, Alabama-based company that specializes in transporting materials such as lime and cement across the southeastern United States. This acquisition is part of KAG's strategic plan to enhance its dry bulk transportation capabilities, following its entry into this segment over a year ago with the purchase of Northern Dry Bulk. KAG has since made multiple acquisitions to build its presence and operational capacity in this market. Rick Hoyle, KAG's executive vice president for dry bulk, noted that Evergreen's customer-focused model and diversified end-user systems align perfectly with KAG’s growth ambitions. Evergreen has a fleet that includes 158 tractors and 338 trailers, and it employs approximately 100 drivers and 45 operational staff members. KAG has established itself as one of the leading for-hire carriers in North America, currently ranking 21st on the Transport Topics Top 100 list and first in the tank/bulk carriers sector. The company’s growth strategy is characterized by acquisitions that bolster its existing service capabilities, including those outside of the dry bulk market. From a transportation industry perspective, KAG's approach not only enhances its operational scale but also reflects a broader trend where companies consolidate their market positions through strategic acquisitions. This trend can lead to improved efficiencies and service offerings, which are crucial in meeting the growing demand for bulk transport services amid shifting market dynamics. Additionally, maintaining a focus on customer service, as KAG emphasizes, is vital for sustaining long-term success and customer loyalty in a competitive landscape.
