Diesel Price Rises 2.5¢ to $3.592 a Gallon

Published: March 31, 2025
The national average price of diesel increased by 2.5 cents to reach $3.592 per gallon, marking a total increase of 4.3 cents over two consecutive weeks after a decline of 14.8 cents during three prior weeks. Currently, diesel is 40.4 cents cheaper compared to the same time last year. Prices rose across all five PADD districts, with the Rocky Mountain district seeing the largest hike at 5.7 cents. Conversely, the New England and Central Atlantic East Coast subdistricts experienced minor declines of less than half a cent each. From a transportation perspective, rising diesel prices can have significant implications for freight costs and logistics. As diesel is a primary fuel for commercial vehicles, increased fuel costs often translate to higher overall shipping expenses. This can impact consumer prices for goods, particularly for products transported over long distances. Additionally, fluctuations in fuel prices can influence transportation strategies, leading companies to explore more fuel-efficient logistics options or optimize routing to mitigate costs. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for businesses involved in transportation and supply chain management.
