DHL Group Acquires White-Glove Logistics Specialist Cryopdp

DHL Group has acquired Cryopdp, a specialized logistics provider focus on clinical trials, biopharmaceuticals, and cell and gene therapies, from Cryoport. This acquisition will enhance DHL’s capabilities in the life sciences logistics sector and aligns with its goal of becoming a leader in healthcare logistics by 2030. Cryopdp, which is based near Paris, manages over 600,000 shipments annually across more than 135 countries. The integration of Cryopdp’s services with DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding aims to significantly expand their Pharma Specialized Network, catering to the growing demands in the clinical and biopharma segments. DHL’s existing healthcare logistics business already contributed over $5 billion in global revenue in 2024. Additionally, DHL and Cryoport announced a partnership to improve supply chains in the global life sciences sector, which will also support Cryoport's expansion in the Asia-Pacific and EMEA regions. In the competitive landscape of logistics, companies like UPS and FedEx are also focusing on the higher-margin life sciences shipping segment. UPS has made recent acquisitions to enhance its capabilities in temperature-controlled logistics, crucial for healthcare delivery. FedEx is also prioritizing growth in health care logistics, with significant revenue goals set for the upcoming fiscal year. The logistics industry is increasingly recognizing the importance of specialized capabilities in handling sensitive health care products, leading to consolidation and strategic partnerships among major players.
