Published: July 18, 2024
The new Toyota Hakone Edition GR86 is a limited special edition model inspired by the pre-Covid GT86 Hakone Edition, paying tribute to the famous Hakone Turnpike road near Tokyo. With features like green paint, tan leather seats, satin bronze wheels, and exclusive badging, this model offers a nostalgic throwback to its predecessor. Only 860 units will be available in the US market, offering a choice between a manual or automatic transmission, along with the added benefit of the 'Performance Pack' including Brembo brakes and Sachs dampers.
In terms of performance, the GR86 retains the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 225bhp and 184lb ft of torque. Future models from 2025 will benefit from revised throttle mapping for improved heel-toe downshifts, as well as new engine torque control and enhanced electric power steering for more responsive handling. Overall, this special edition model offers a unique blend of heritage design elements and modern performance upgrades for enthusiasts to enjoy on the road.
