Diesel Price Declines 5.1¢ to $3.704 a Gallon
Published: August 13, 2024
The national average price of diesel has dropped 5.1 cents to $3.704 per gallon, marking a continuing trend over five weeks during which prices have fallen a total of 16.1 cents. Compared to the same period last year, diesel costs are down 67.4 cents, offering some relief to the trucking and logistics sectors that have faced fluctuating fuel prices. All ten regions surveyed by the Energy Information Administration reported decreases, with the Gulf Coast seeing the largest drop of 6.5 cents.
This decline in diesel prices is notable across various regions. For instance, the East Coast average fell by 5.2 cents, the Midwest decreased by 4.8 cents, and the West Coast saw a reduction of 4.7 cents, averaging $4.309 per gallon. California continues to have the highest diesel prices in the country despite a reduction.
From a transportation perspective, falling diesel prices can lead to lower operating costs for trucking companies and boost profitability. However, volatility in energy prices and economic conditions remain critical factors in assessing future trends, suggesting that strategic planning and adaptability will be essential for transportation businesses moving forward.
