Acura reckons this Performance EV Concept pays homage to the second-gen NSX

Published: August 21, 2024
Acura is introducing the Performance EV Concept, a new electric SUV that features design elements reminiscent of both the Lotus Eletre and McLaren's upcoming SUV. This concept not only previews Acura’s future EV offerings but is also set to enter production by late 2025, utilizing a new Honda-developed electric vehicle platform. The vehicle will be manufactured at Honda's EV Hub in Ohio. The design, created by Acura's Los Angeles studio, includes dynamic features such as a vented hood, substantial side vents, and a rear end that references the second generation NSX. While specific powertrain details have yet to be announced, the vehicle will not utilize any components from General Motors, unlike Acura's previous EV, the ZDX. From a transportation expert's perspective, Acura's focus on integrating advanced design with innovative electric vehicle technology is a strategic move in the competitive electric SUV market. The shift towards a dedicated EV platform signals a commitment to developing sustainable mobility solutions, rather than merely adapting existing models to electric powertrains. This could position Acura favorably as consumer preferences increasingly lean towards performance and eco-friendliness in their vehicle choices. The emphasis on unique stylistic elements reflects a desire to create a distinct brand identity within the growing EV segment, potentially paving the way for greater market share as consumers look for vehicles that offer both innovation and aesthetic appeal.
