Ex-Yellow CEO Joins Intermodal Chassis Pool Operator

Published: September 12, 2024
Darren Hawkins, the former CEO of Yellow Corp., has been appointed as president of the North American Chassis Pool Cooperative (NACPC), with plans to become CEO on January 1, 2025. He succeeds Dave Manning, who has led the cooperative since its inception in 2012 and will transition to the chairman role. Hawkins has extensive experience in the transportation industry, having served as the CEO of Yellow for six years before its bankruptcy and as senior vice president at Con-way. He expressed a commitment to enhancing the U.S. intermodal chassis network, focusing on fleet modernization and expanding services. Hawkins joins NACPC during a challenging time for the freight and intermodal markets, which are experiencing reduced demand. The cooperative plays a significant role by providing regional pools of intermodal chassis, which are essential for efficient container transportation in North America. In expert opinion, this leadership change at NACPC comes at a critical moment for the intermodal sector, which needs to adapt to ongoing market pressures. Hawkins’s prior experience in navigating corporate challenges will be invaluable in steering NACPC towards its growth objectives while also enhancing service offerings, especially as the demand landscape shifts. Investing in fleet capabilities and service expansion can position NACPC to better serve U.S. motor carriers, even amidst industry uncertainties.
