ALERT Iranian Civil Aviation Authority is cancelling all flights until 06:00
Published: October 11, 2024
The Iranian Civil Aviation Authority has announced a suspension of flights across the country tonight from 21:00 to 06:00 due to “Operational Limitations.” An aerodrome closure is in effect from 17:30 to 02:30 UTC, with exceptions made for emergency, ferry, and state aircraft. Additionally, a NOTAM has declared an ongoing closure of flight paths over Western Iran nightly from 17:00 to 01:30 UTC, lasting until October 9th. This decision appears to be a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining the safety of civilian air traffic amid rising regional tensions or security threats.
In my expert opinion, such operational limitations reflect a heightened awareness of the vulnerabilities in civil aviation during periods of geopolitical instability. It’s critical for aviation authorities to prioritize the safety of passengers and crew, even if it means significant disruptions in flight operations. Regular assessments of security risks in specific airspace can help inform these decisions, but they also underline the interconnectedness of transportation systems and political stability in the region.
