Two ground incidents in one day at Boston’s Logan International Airport
Published: November 29, 2024
At Logan Airport in Boston, an American Airlines Boeing 777-200ER collided with the wing of a Frontier Airlines Airbus A321 while being towed at Terminal E. The incident occurred on November 25, 2024, as American Airlines flight 109 was arriving from London Heathrow. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers who were on board at the time. The American Airlines aircraft has since been taken out of service for inspection.
In a separate incident on the same day, a tug vehicle towing an empty JetBlue Airbus A321 struck the rear of a Cape Air plane at low speed. This collision involved a Cape Air flight carrying three passengers and two crew members, but again, no injuries were reported, although the pilots from the Cape Air flight were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The situation highlights ongoing challenges in ground operations at busy airports.
From a transportation expert perspective, these incidents underscore the critical importance of effective ground handling protocols and the need for ongoing training for ground crews and tug operators to minimize risk. It is essential to implement advanced technology and communication systems that can prevent such accidents and ensure that strict safety protocols are followed to maintain the safety of all airport operations.
