Diesel Price Shoots Up 20.4¢ to $3.775 a Gallon

Published: June 24, 2025
The national average price for diesel fuel has seen a significant increase, rising 20.4 cents to $3.775 per gallon over the past week. This marks the third consecutive week of rising prices and represents the largest increase since February 2024. Diesel prices have increased by a total of 32.4 cents in just three weeks, reversing a trend of declining prices observed over the preceding two months. The Midwest and Gulf Coast regions experienced the most substantial price hikes, with respective increases of 24 and 22.4 cents, while the Rocky Mountain region saw the smallest rise of 14.1 cents. Additionally, gasoline prices also rose by 7.4 cents to an average of $3.213 per gallon, although this is still lower than the prices from the same time last year.

In light of these developments, it is crucial to recognize that fuel prices have multifaceted implications for the transportation sector. As diesel prices rise, operating costs for freight carriers and logistics companies also increase, which can lead to higher prices for goods and services across various industries. Companies may need to re-evaluate their supply chain strategies to mitigate the impact of fuel surcharges. The current geopolitical tensions further exacerbate uncertainties in fuel markets, making it imperative for transportation stakeholders to remain agile and proactive in their planning and operations. An integrated approach that considers alternative fuel sources and technology innovations could help manage future volatility in fuel prices.
