Vietjet Expands Fleet with Order for 20 Additional A330neo Widebody Aircraft
Vietjet and Airbus have solidified their partnership with a new agreement signed in Hanoi, which was witnessed by high-profile leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong. This agreement effectively doubles Vietjet's previous commitment to the A330neo aircraft, raising their total orders to 40 units. In addition to this, the airline has 96 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft on order. Currently, Vietjet operates 115 Airbus A320 Family aircraft along with seven A330-300s, which are used on international routes to destinations like Australia, India, and Kazakhstan, focusing on providing enhanced passenger comfort and Business Class offerings.
The acquisition of the A330-900, which features Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and has a non-stop range of 7,200 nautical miles, positions Vietjet to expand into new longer-haul markets, catering to the changing preferences of global travelers. The A330neo is noteworthy for its environmental considerations, being certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel now, with aspirations to reach full sustainability in fuel usage by 2030.
From a transportation perspective, Vietjet's move to acquire more A330neo aircraft signifies a strategic shift towards expanded international operations, demonstrating the airline's ambition in the competitive aviation landscape. The addition of longer-range aircraft can not only improve operational efficiency but also enhance the overall passenger experience. The growing focus on sustainable aviation fuels is critical in addressing the industry's environmental impact, and airlines that prioritize this transition will likely gain a competitive edge in a market increasingly influenced by eco-conscious consumers.
