M. Quirinale, marking a significant milestone in Italy's maritime research and monitoring capabilities.
The vessel is designed to support scientific mapping and monitoring activities in support of the Italian Navy Hydrographic Institute, which produces official national nautical documentation. Measuring approximately 110 meters in length with a displacement of around 6,000 tonnes, Quirinale can accommodate up to 140 personnel, including crew and scientific staff.
The ship is equipped with advanced scientific instrumentation for hydrographic, oceanographic, and geophysical surveys, as well as an autonomous underwater vehicle and an unmanned surface vehicle. Fincantieri has incorporated emission-reduction technologies, diesel-electric propulsion, optimised hull forms, and low-impact materials to ensure environmental sustainability.
The vessel's technical configuration also includes lifting systems dedicated to scientific operations and a DP2 dynamic positioning system for precision and stability during research activities. This launch represents technological and industrial excellence in the service of the national interest, combining advanced operational capabilities, innovation, and environmental sustainability.
Fincantieri's role as a strategic partner of the Italian Navy in the construction of highly technological platforms is confirmed by this vessel. The ongoing commitment of the national system to the development of state-of-the-art naval solutions is also evident in this launch, which enhances the know-how and skills of the industrial supply chain.
The Quirinale's advanced scientific instrumentation and environmental sustainability features make it an exemplary model for hydro-oceanographic research vessels. Its design and construction demonstrate Fincantieri's expertise in delivering complex projects that meet both operational and environmental requirements.
