Descartes Acquires Fleet Safety Platform Idelic for $28M

Descartes Systems Group has announced the acquisition of fleet safety solutions provider Idelic for $28 million. This deal expands Descartes' Global Logistics Network by adding a large dataset and advanced AI-powered platform for managing driver performance. The acquisition is expected to enhance fleet safety capabilities and productivity for operators. With this move, Descartes further solidifies its position in the logistics industry by providing cutting-edge solutions for fleet management.

The Idelic platform combines monitoring, reporting, and training on one system, helping fleets identify and mitigate risky behaviors. This AI-powered approach enables fleets to operate more safely and efficiently. The dataset includes over 40 billion miles of driving data along with more than 400,000 accident reports, providing a wealth of information for optimizing safety training interventions.

The deal is the result of Descartes' efforts to expand its Fleet Data Intelligence platform, combining existing route planning solutions with predictive safety capabilities. This acquisition will enable fleets to make data-driven decisions and improve their overall performance. With this move, Descartes aims to enhance its final-mile footprint by adding advanced fleet safety capabilities.

According to James Wee, general manager of fleet management at Descartes, productivity and safety are equally critical for fleet operators. The acquisition adds critical data to the GLN and enhances Descartes' final-mile footprint by adding highly advanced fleet safety capabilities and deep domain expertise.

The acquisition is funded entirely with cash on hand, with a performance-based earnout of up to $12 million based on various revenue targets in the two-year period following the closing. This earnout structure ensures that Descartes will benefit from the success of the Idelic platform in the coming years.

Descartes has now acquired 36 companies since 2016, demonstrating its commitment to expanding its portfolio and capabilities. The company continues to invest in innovative technologies and solutions to support its customers in the logistics industry.

The acquisition of Idelic comes at a time when the industry is increasingly focused on safety and efficiency. With this move, Descartes positions itself as a leader in providing advanced fleet management solutions that prioritize both productivity and safety.

Descartes' Fleet Data Intelligence platform uses an AI agent and machine learning to improve fleet performance and reduce cost per delivery. The company's focus on data-driven decision-making is expected to benefit its customers in the coming years.

The acquisition of Idelic further solidifies Descartes' position as a major player in the logistics industry. With this move, the company aims to provide fleets with advanced safety capabilities and deep domain expertise, enabling them to operate more efficiently and safely.
