Anschütz has successfully delivered and commissioned its SYNAPSIS Integrated Navigation System (INS) on the first newbuild tanker constructed for German Tanker Shipping GmbH & Co.KG at Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd (XSI). The vessel, TMS Seadevil, was handed over in January, marking a significant milestone in the program of six modern 41,000 dwt oil and chemical tankers. These tankers are designed to support safe navigation in restricted waters, precise maneuvering in ports and terminals, and reliable global operations under varying environmental conditions.
The SYNAPSIS navigation solution for the newbuild series covers all core navigation and steering components required for modern tanker operations. The equipment includes solid-state radars that enhance target detection and reduce maintenance requirements. This advanced technology is essential for ensuring safe and efficient navigation in various environmental conditions, such as restricted waters or ports with limited visibility.
The SYNAPSIS architecture provides a uniform operational concept across all workstations, centralized system monitoring, and consistent data integrity across the bridge. This design enables seamless integration of the navigation system with other critical bridge systems, ensuring that operators can focus on safe and efficient navigation. The solid-state radars also contribute to reduced maintenance requirements, as they are more resistant to environmental factors such as dust and corrosion.

The design and implementation of the navigation system were carried out in coordination between stakeholders in Germany and China. The Anschütz office in Shanghai worked directly with the bridge integrator Eastone and XSI throughout the project, overseeing detailed engineering, project execution, and on-site installation of the SYNAPSIS INS. This collaborative effort ensured that the navigation system was tailored to meet the specific needs of the German Tanker Shipping fleet.
With the successful delivery and installation of the INS on the first tanker, the navigation system program is now fully underway. Integration and delivery activities for the subsequent vessels will continue throughout the construction schedule at XSI and are supported by the Anschütz team in Shanghai. This phased approach allows for efficient management of the project, ensuring that all vessels receive the necessary support and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operations.
The SYNAPSIS Integrated Navigation System is a critical component of modern tanker operations, enabling operators to navigate safely and efficiently in various environmental conditions. The system's advanced technology and design ensure that operators can focus on safe navigation, while also reducing maintenance requirements and improving overall efficiency. As the global demand for oil and chemical tankers continues to grow, the integration of advanced navigation systems like SYNAPSIS will become increasingly important.

The successful delivery of the SYNAPSIS INS on the TMS Seadevil marks a significant milestone in the development of modern tanker operations. The system's ability to support safe navigation in restricted waters, precise maneuvering in ports and terminals, and reliable global operations under varying environmental conditions sets a new standard for the industry. As the industry continues to evolve, it is likely that advanced navigation systems like SYNAPSIS will play an increasingly important role in ensuring safe and efficient operations.
The collaboration between Anschütz, Eastone, and XSI has been instrumental in delivering the SYNAPSIS INS on schedule. The project's success demonstrates the importance of effective communication and coordination between stakeholders in the development of complex projects like this one. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, it is essential that companies prioritize collaboration and effective communication to ensure successful project delivery.
The integration of advanced navigation systems like SYNAPSIS into modern tanker operations will have a significant impact on the industry's safety record and operational efficiency. By enabling operators to navigate safely and efficiently in various environmental conditions, these systems will help reduce the risk of accidents and improve overall efficiency. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, it is essential that companies prioritize the development and integration of advanced navigation technologies like SYNAPSIS.
