Daimler Truck Cuts Guidance, Citing North America Uncertainty

Published: May 13, 2025
Daimler Truck Holding AG has revised its sales and profit forecasts for the year, attributing the adjustments to rising economic uncertainties in North America. The company anticipates adjusted earnings before interest and tax to be between 5% and negative 5% year-over-year, down from prior projections. It expects unit sales to be between 430,000 to 460,000 vehicles and revenue for its Industrial Business to now fall between 48 billion euros and 51 billion euros.

The Freightliner brand, which leads the U.S. truck market with approximately 90,000 annual sales, has seen these changes amidst overall subdued demand in North America. The company previously aimed for steady sales and an increase in adjusted EBIT by 5% to 15%, reflecting a more stable market condition that now appears overly optimistic. Though Daimler intends to pass on any tariff-related costs to customers, the impact is still uncertain.

In the context of transportation, this decline illuminates the challenges truck manufacturers face amidst fluctuating economic conditions, including supply chain disruptions and inflation. The reduction in demand for trucks can signal broader issues affecting logistics and freight transport, potentially leading to higher transport costs and shifts in supply chain strategies as companies navigate these economic hurdles. Investments in innovation and efficiency may become critical as the industry adapts to these changing conditions.
