The Mahindra Thar Roxx might just be the most tempting Wrangler lookalike on the market , though it’s a temptation currently reserved for Indian buyers. In an effort to stir up more interest in the rugged off-roader, Mahindra has launched a new special edition that bundles in more kit without pushing the price out of reach. The Thar Roxx Star Edition sets itself apart from the rest of the range with a blacked-out details.
The familiar Jeep-style six-slot grille now wears a glossy piano black finish, matched by 19-inch alloy wheels in the same shade. These sit alongside bare plastic cladding around the bumpers and fenders, while metallic-look elements on the skid plates and side steps break up the otherwise dark treatment. LED headlights, taillights, and fog lights are all standard, while Indian buyers can choose from four exterior colors, including Citrine Yellow, Everest White, Stealth Black, and Tango Red.
Inside, Mahindra ditched the standard, light-colored upholstery for an all-black theme. The seats are wrapped in black leatherette with suede accents. We can also see fake carbon accents on the center console and leatherette inserts with white stitching on the dashboard.
Equipment is quite generous, aligning closely with what you’d find on the flagship trims. 25-inch displays, built-in Alexa integration, a surround-view camera, wireless charging pad, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a Harman Kardon audio setup—all included as standard. What the Star Edition lacks, compared to the AX6L and AX7L variants of the Thar Roxx, is the Level 2 ADAS suite, a likely omission to keep pricing in check.
Despite its rugged looks, the Star Edition is exclusively available in rear-wheel-drive configuration with selectable terrain modes and a brake-locking rear differential. This is an odd choice as other trims of the Thar and Thar Roxx are offered with a proper 4×4 system and off-road tech. Power comes from Mahindra’s usual set of engines.
0-liter turbocharged petrol delivers 175 hp (130 kW / 177 PS) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque, and it’s paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic. 2-liter turbodiesel making 171 hp (129 kW / 175 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft), which can be had with a six-speed manual.
