The official dates for the 2026 Electrek Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) and the 2026 Electrek American Solar Challenge (ASC) have been released, marking a new season of solar car racing. With a record-breaking 46 teams registered to compete, this year's FSGP promises to be an exciting event.

1-mile road course. The track features sweeping turns and a long, wide front straight that doubles as a drag strip.

Compared to last year's NCM Motorsports Park, this year's course is less hilly, boasting more straightaways and wider passing opportunities. The event will kick off on July 21 and run through July 23, with the public invited to attend for free.

As a pre-qualifier, the FSGP will serve as a stepping stone for students looking to participate in the biennial American Solar Challenge (ASC), which will start almost directly after the FSGP on July 25. The starting line will be in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, with details still pending.

With its rich history dating back to 1987, American solar car racing has come a long way since GM's Sunraycer won the first World Solar Challenge in Australia. This year's events promise to be just as thrilling, with experimental hand-built solar cars taking center stage.
