International Motors, LLC has officially launched a joint pilot program in collaboration with Ryder System, Inc. to test autonomous trucks in a live freight operation. This initiative marks a significant milestone for both companies as they explore the integration of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology into real-world logistics. The pilot will utilize a factory-integrated autonomous vehicle to operate a dedicated route, demonstrating the practical applications of AVs in freight transport.

The pilot program involves a daily 600-mile route along the I-35 corridor, connecting Ryder's locations in Laredo and Temple, Texas. This route is critical for Ryder as it allows for the evaluation of the autonomous truck's performance and reliability under actual operating conditions. By running a dedicated transportation route for a Ryder supply chain customer, both companies aim to gather valuable insights that can inform future autonomous operations.

International has deployed its second-generation autonomous tractor, which features a comprehensive suite of sensors including lidar, radar, and cameras. This technology is integrated into the International ® LT ® Series truck, which is powered by the S13 ® Integrated Powertrain. The vehicle is also equipped with the latest AI-based SuperDrive™ autonomous driving software developed by PlusAI, ensuring a robust platform for the trial.
