Audi is reviving its A2 nameplate for its upcoming electric model, which will be paired with the familiar E-tron suffix and positioned beneath the Q4 e-Tron. The new car will share core underpinnings with Volkswagen Group's next-generation small EVs and effectively replace the departing petrol-powered Q2.
The Audi A2 was a cult classic in the early 2000s, known for its ultra-light aluminum spaceframe-based compact design. 7 mpg).
Only 176,377 units were produced. The new A2 e-Tron will feature a similar upright profile to the original, with a more raked windscreen and a roofline that tapers aggressively towards the C-pillar.
It will have slim micro-LED daytime running lights, a bold grille, and deep sculpting on the lower surfaces. Inside, it is expected to mirror the themes set in the Q3 and Q5, with a curved digital driver's display, ambient lighting, and sustainable trim options.
The A2 e-Tron will ride on Volkswagen Group's new MEB+ architecture, which promises a stiffer chassis, better energy efficiency, and significantly faster charging compared to earlier models. Early technical leaks point to a front-wheel-drive base model producing 201 hp (150 kW), paired with a 63 kWh battery expected to deliver around 250 miles (402 km) of driving range.
The car will compete with a growing roster of small premium EVs, including the Volvo EX30 and BMW iX1.

The revival of the A2 nameplate is a bold move by Audi, aiming to tap into the nostalgia of its cult classic predecessor while introducing a new electric model. This strategy could help Audi establish itself as a leader in the compact EV segment.
