Porsche has begun production of its third all-electric model, the Cayenne Electric. The electric SUV is being built at Porsche's Bratislava plant in Slovakia, where it's assembled alongside its gas and hybrid Cayenne line-mates.
The Cayenne Electric, which made its debut last fall, will be Porsche's most powerful production vehicle ever, turning out up to 1,156 hp. The automaker also says it will sport the largest display screen area the company has yet fitted to a vehicle, faster Porsche Communication Management (PCM) response times, and a broader range of customization options than any previous Cayenne.
Porsche is using battery modules developed entirely in-house, manufactured at the new Porsche Smart Battery Shop in Horná Streda, about 60 miles northeast of the Bratislava assembly facility. The facility handles everything from cell preparation and stacking to laser welding, cold-plate integration, and automated end-of-line testing.
With this approach, Porsche gains control over the quality, precision, and scalability of a key technology that will significantly shape its future. The Cayenne Electric's high-voltage battery has a gross energy content of 113 kWh, which the automaker says will enable a range of more than 370 miles and support 800-volt fast charging.
Porsche claims a world-first double-sided cooling system to help manage battery temperature from above and below for improved efficiency. This innovative approach underscores Porsche's commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology.
The company's investment in its Smart Battery Shop and production line demonstrates its dedication to delivering high-quality, state-of-the-art vehicles that meet individual customer requirements worldwide.
