The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for seven Lamborghini Revuelto plug-in hybrid supercars due to an issue with their rearview camera system. The problem is caused by a software glitch that can occur when drivers quickly shift into reverse within one second after turning the engine on or off, causing the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to exit the camera display logic.
This means the cars fail to comply with federal safety standards related to rear visibility. Fortunately, the fix is simple and only requires updating the rearview camera software at dealerships.
The affected vehicles are from the 2024 and 2025 model years, and all seven are believed to have the defect in the United States. Owners can continue enjoying their cars' advanced powertrain, which includes a naturally-aspirated V12 engine, three electric motors, an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a lithium-ion battery pack, producing a combined output of 1,001 horsepower.
The recall is scheduled to begin on March 26 with owner notifications going out at that time. Lamborghini first noticed the issue last May and worked to identify the problem before pinpointing it to a specific software version and car configuration.
The company has taken steps to address the issue and ensure public safety.
This recall highlights the importance of regular software updates for luxury vehicles, especially those with advanced powertrains like the Lamborghini Revuelto. It's reassuring that the fix is simple and can be done at dealerships without requiring any significant repairs or modifications.
