Easter Sunday turned into an unexpected adventure for easyJet flight U2 4874, which was forced to abort its landing at Paris Orly Airport due to a nearby wedding procession. The Airbus A320, carrying passengers from Venice Marco Polo Airport, was on final approach when the crew spotted smoke and small explosions near the runway threshold.

The incident highlighted the importance of situational awareness for pilots, who must be vigilant in identifying potential hazards during landing procedures. Thankfully, the quick thinking of the flight crew prevented a potentially disastrous outcome.

According to eyewitnesses, the wedding procession consisted of around 15 vehicles, including luxury cars and quad bikes, which had gathered in a suburb directly below the airport's approach corridor. The fireworks display was intended to celebrate the union of two couples.

The use of fireworks near an airport is strictly regulated due to safety concerns, but it appears that these rules were not adhered to in this instance. It is unclear whether the wedding procession was aware of the potential risks associated with their actions.

easyJet confirmed that its aircraft was not hit during the incident and that the safety of passengers and crew was not compromised. The airline's pilots are highly trained in performing 'go-arounds' as a precautionary measure.

The airport immediately closed operations on Runway 25, keeping it out of commission for approximately 90 minutes. Ground teams worked to ensure the runway was safe and clear of any foreign object debris that may have landed.

Runway 06/24 is typically used for departures only at that time of day, but the easyJet A320 was cleared to land on it due to the circumstances. The airport's Runway 02/20 is reserved for emergencies or other exceptional circumstances.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for clear communication and coordination between event organizers and local authorities. It is essential that such events are planned with safety in mind to avoid disruptions to air traffic.

In the end, the easyJet flight landed safely on Runway 4 around 15 minutes later after performing a successful go-around. The crew's quick thinking and training prevented any harm to passengers or crew members.
