Volvo CE Streamlines Operations with On-Board Weighing

Volvo Construction Equipment (CE) is taking steps to revolutionize the way contractors manage their operations. The company has launched updates across its large, mid-size, and compact wheel loader models, focusing on improving efficiency and reducing administrative burdens. By expanding its suite of services that bridge the gap between the operator's cab and the back office, Volvo CE aims to provide a competitive advantage in a rapidly changing industry landscape.

The new on-board weighing system is designed to simplify the load-out process, from loading to invoicing. This technology digitizes the entire process, reducing the need for paper tickets and eliminating the possibility of them being lost or misplaced. As a result, contractors can expect faster and more accurate invoicing, as well as improved customer management.

The on-board weighing system is certified by a third party, making it legal for billing and allowing trucks to bypass site scales. This streamlined process significantly reduces site traffic and administrative efficiency, enabling contractors to focus on their core business activities.

Volvo CE's Load Ticket service wirelessly transmits tickets from the machine to a site office, eliminating the need for paper tickets altogether. This not only simplifies customer management but also creates more accurate invoicing and reduces errors.

In an interview, Jenny Olsen, Product Manager — Productivity Services at Volvo CE, highlighted the benefits of this technology. 'This technology digitizes the entire load-out process, from loading to invoicing,' she said. 'Combined with the machine updates, we're providing solutions that offer increased productivity as a loader fills a truck, quick and accurate certified weighing, and a digital load ticket that goes straight to a customer's ERP software and an invoice to their customer — all in less time than it would have taken for the operator to stop at the scales.'

The integration of on-board weighing technology is just one aspect of Volvo CE's efforts to enhance productivity and safety. The company has also introduced the optional Volvo Smart View with 360-degree cameras, available for wheel loaders from L150 through L260.

This system uses four strategically placed cameras to provide a complete bird's-eye view around the machine on the integrated Volvo Co-Pilot display. Eliminating blind spots helps operators avoid obstacles, reduces the risk of accidents, and decreases operator stress.

The introduction of these updates demonstrates Volvo CE's commitment to supporting contractors in their pursuit of efficiency and productivity. By providing solutions that maximize uptime, productivity, and safety, the company aims to ensure the long-term viability and profitability of every fleet.

In an industry where technology is constantly evolving, Volvo CE is at the forefront of innovation. The company's efforts to streamline operations and enhance productivity are likely to have a significant impact on the construction industry as a whole.

As contractors continue to navigate the challenges of digitalization, Volvo CE's updates offer a welcome respite from the administrative burdens associated with traditional methods. By embracing this technology, contractors can focus on what matters most: delivering high-quality projects and services to their customers.
