The 2025 Land Rover Defender Octa played a pivotal role in the recent Dakar Rally, with three new racing trucks, the Defender Dakar D7X-R, competing in the Stock category. The two-week event saw competitors log over 50 hours of racing time, with the fastest rider completing the rally in 49 hours and the slowest in 141 hours.
Despite being highly modified for competition, the core bits of the racing trucks were based on the stock Defender Octa. The author's expedition, which started in Riyadh and ended in Jeddah, provided a unique perspective on the rally's pace and the capabilities of the vehicles.
The trip showcased the Defender's exceptional performance in harsh terrain, with the cars performing flawlessly despite extreme temperatures, wind, and challenging conditions. Land Rover achieved impressive results, breaking records and securing first and second place in its class.
