The CMA CGM Group has received its 400th owned vessel, the CMA CGM Monte Cristo, marking a significant milestone in the group's decarbonization strategy. The ship is part of a series of six methanol container ships that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from international trade.
With a capacity of 16,204 TEU, the vessel features advanced technologies to enhance its environmental and operational performance. Built at DSIC Tianjin Shipyard, it held its naming ceremony on January 21, 2026, with Liu Liping serving as godmother.
The ship will enter commercial service in Ningbo on January 29, 2026, connecting North Asia with the Levant and the Adriatic Sea. This milestone reflects CMA CGM's long-term investment strategy, which prioritizes asset ownership and technological integration to reduce its environmental footprint.
As the shipping industry continues to transition towards cleaner fuels, methanol-powered vessels like the CMA CGM Monte Cristo will play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from international trade. With 11 such vessels already in operation, this new addition further solidifies CMA CGM's position as a leader in sustainable shipping practices.
