What's Crazier: This 1993 Mazda RX-7's Custom Body or Its Engine?

A 1993 Mazda RX-7 with a custom body has turned up for auction, featuring twice the rotors of a standard car, huge twin turbos, and mechanicals borrowed from a Lamborghini and a Corvette. The original project was even crazier, with all-wheel drive thanks to a transaxle sourced from a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Happily, the car is now rear-wheel drive only, with mufflers fitted and boost slightly reduced to produce 800 horsepower. A four-rotor engine without proper auditory damping is one of the most ear-splitting devices on the planet, but the addition of proper mufflers should bring down the pain level.

The suspension has C7 Corvette control arms and electronically adjustable coil-overs, while Wilwood disc brakes lurk behind those 19-inch wheels. A third-generation RX-7 in standard form is still a very pretty car, so you'd hardly call this an improvement, but the craftsmanship is tidily done.

6 liters and producing up to 1200 horsepower if boost is turned up too high. Taken all together, it's one wild build that's sure to set tongues wagging at any car show you'd care to take it to.
