The grant will cover 75 percent of the total program costs, with Marine Group matching the remaining 25 percent. This initiative addresses workforce constraints by increasing the number of highly skilled welders certified to NAVSEA standards, thereby enhancing production resources for Navy surface ships and critical maritime assets.

The partnership between Marine Group and the Maritime Institute in San Diego has resulted in a customized curriculum combining accredited technical instruction with quality and safety standards required for Navy shipbuilding and repair projects. New and existing eligible employees can learn how to weld while covering course materials and instruction costs, and upon successful certification, graduates transition into full-time welding positions at Marine Group with competitive pay and benefits.

The program has already shown promising results, with the first class achieving a 100 percent passing rate, and all students fully certified and currently assigned to one of Marine Group's boatbuilding projects. This investment will increase shipyard efficiency while adding to the industry's workforce, providing employees with greater confidence in their ability to handle complex welding tasks and transferable skills that will benefit them throughout their career.

The Navy Grant is a significant step towards addressing the maritime industry's workforce constraints, and Marine Group's partnership with the Maritime Institute has demonstrated its commitment to developing a skilled labor workforce. S.
