Associated Terminals and Liebherr Maritime Cranes recently christened two CBG 500 E all-electric cranes in New Orleans, marking a significant milestone for the maritime industry. These innovative transshipment cranes are designed to handle high-volume bulk cargo, offering exceptional grab capacities and lattice boom designs that enhance operational efficiency.

With integrated energy recovery systems, remote diagnostics, and ergonomic cabins, these cranes prioritize both safety and sustainability. The two cranes are installed on purpose-built barges with hybrid-ready power systems, reducing fuel consumption and environmental impact.

The christening ceremony brought together industry leaders, politicians, and business representatives to celebrate this groundbreaking technology. By introducing the first all-electric transshipment cranes of their kind, Associated Terminals is setting a new standard for port operations along the Mississippi River.

The introduction of these cranes represents years of planning and partnership coming to life, as Zeljko Franks, COO at Associated Terminals, noted during the ceremony. The two CBG 500 E cranes have already begun operating in service, with strong praise from Associated Terminals after commissioning.

The second crane arrived at the end of 2025 and will soon join its counterpart in operation, continuing to showcase exceptional efficiency and sustainability. This partnership between Liebherr and Associated Terminals is crucial for shaping the future of port operations along the Mississippi River.

As Andreas Müller, General Manager Sales at Liebherr-Rostock GmbH, emphasized during the ceremony, this collaboration marks an important step forward for the industry.
