Hertz Slashes Shelby Mach-E Prices to All-Time Low

Hertz has cut prices on its Shelby Mach-Es again, and the drop is steep. The rental giant started offloading a bunch of these special black-and-gold Mustang Mach-Es back in late 2024, asking around $65,000 for most of them. Fast forward just a couple of months to January 2025, and the prices were slashed to around $60,000.

The latest price cut brings the drop to a further $20,000, with prices now starting at $40,085 for the cheapest example. A scan of Hertz's current inventory across the States turns up 31 Shelby Mach-Es, with mileage stretching from 3,275 to just over 15,000.

The cheapest examples sit in California, while a Scottsdale car claims the lowest mileage of the lot at 3,275 for $40,649. One in New Orleans splits the difference at 8,215 miles for $40,436.

Hertz's decision to slash prices may be a desperate attempt to offload inventory, as electric vehicles tend to depreciate very quickly. The designs of the Shelby models also turn off many prospective buyers, particularly because of the go-fast gold racing stripes and carbon fiber parts.

Shelby is believed to have built just 100 examples of the Hertz-exclusive Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, so it does have exclusivity going for it. However, the lack of real performance upgrades may not justify the original price tag.

There is also the usual caveat that comes with any ex-rental: someone else got the keys first, and they probably did not treat them gently. This could impact the resale value of these vehicles.

As a result, buyers may want to consider the mileage and overall condition of the vehicle before making a purchase. With prices starting at $40,085, Hertz is offering a relatively affordable option for those looking to own an electric vehicle.

Despite the low price point, it remains to be seen whether these vehicles will attract buyers in large numbers.

Hertz's willingness to slash prices may signal a shift in the rental market, with companies looking to adapt to changing consumer demands and increasing competition from private ownership.
