It was an unlikely journey for Kurt Busch as he made his way into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He began his career in Las Vegas, a city not exactly known for its stock car racing hotbeds. Despite facing challenges and controversies along the way, including driving with a mean streak and clashing with other drivers, team owners, and journalists, Busch showed remarkable skills behind the wheel.

He moved from team to team, winning the Cup Series championship in 2004 with Roush Racing but was let go less than a year later. Throughout his career, Busch refined his attitude and accumulated years of quality racing and contributions to the sport. His driving career came to an end in July 2022 when he suffered a concussion in a crash during qualifying at Pocono Raceway.

With 34 Cup victories under his belt, including one win in almost all his full-time seasons, Busch was an easy choice for the Hall of Fame. He was joined by Harry Gant and the late Ray Hendrick in the Class of 2023. Gant, a carpenter who turned racing into a career, won 18 Cup Series races and remains the oldest driver to win a Cup race at 52 years old.

Hendrick had an astonishing success in modified and late model sportsman racing, totaling hundreds of wins over his long career. The trio was honored in a ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina, hours before a major winter storm hit the area. Busch described himself as 'a blue-collar kid from Las Vegas living his dream,' while Gant thanked those who had raced with him and Hendrick's impressive racing achievements were recognized by fans and fellow drivers alike.
