Dr. John McElligott, a physician, Navy veteran, and co-founder of the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, has died at the age of 80. His extensive career spanned over three decades, during which he directly helped thousands of drivers and reached more than 5,000 others through the relief fund.

McElligott's work focused on occupational health for professional drivers, earning him a spot on the Wall of Fame at the Mid-America Trucking Show in 2023. This recognition highlights his tireless efforts to support truckers and improve their working conditions.

Throughout his career, McElligott operated two occupational health clinics with a primary focus on truck drivers, who he believed were underserved and often overlooked. His dedication to this population is a testament to his commitment to improving the lives of those in need.

Mceliggott's legacy extends beyond his direct work with truckers. He also established the Water in Midland Career Fund, which provides tuition and equipment support for seven students annually, with preference given to military veterans. This initiative demonstrates his desire to open doors for others and provide opportunities for growth.

In addition to his work with the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, McElligott was a regular guest on SiriusXM's Road Dog Trucking channel, where he shared practical medical insight and wellness advice tailored specifically to drivers. His radio appearances helped him become a recognizable advocate for trucker wellness nationwide.

After serving as a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marines, he went on to pursue a career in medicine, graduating at the top of his class from the Physician Assistant Program at Duke University.

His medical expertise was further honed through his residency at Yale Griffin Hospital, where he finished at the top of his class at age 40. McElligott's board certification as an internal medicine physician and Fellowship with the American College of Physicians are a testament to his exceptional skill and dedication to his craft.

Mceliggott received numerous awards for his service, including the East Tennessee Healthcare Hero Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. This recognition is a well-deserved tribute to his tireless efforts to improve the lives of truckers and those affected by their work.
