Mack LR Electric garbage trucks are now helping to improve the breathing of Bronx residents by providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional diesel-powered vehicles. The first truck was delivered in December and has already made a significant impact on waste collection operations. With its impressive performance and low operating costs, it's no wonder Royal Waste Services has placed orders for three more units.
The Mack LR Electric features a 376 kWh battery pack that sends power to a pair of high-efficiency electric motors, producing a combined 448 horsepower and 4,051 lb-ft of torque. This makes it well-suited for the heavy loads and stop-start demands of urban refuse collection. The truck's two-stage regenerative braking system also helps to recapture energy from frequent stops, extending its useful operating range.
Royal Waste Services' decision to expand its Mack LR Electric fleet is a testament to the operational viability of electric refuse vehicles in demanding urban environments. By reducing engine vibration and noise, drivers are reporting reduced fatigue and improved control, leading to happier and healthier employees. This benefits not only the company but also its customers, who can expect cleaner air and better waste collection services.

The move to electric propulsion delivers environmental and community benefits, as well as fuel and maintenance cost savings. With the support of the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program, Royal Waste Services was able to fund part of the purchase price of the Mack LR Electric. This initiative demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainable waste collection operations in New York.
The Bronx Is Breathing
The shift towards electric refuse vehicles marks a significant step forward in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality, particularly in urban areas.
