The Chevrolet Malibu has experienced a remarkable surge in used car sales, jumping from 29th place to 8th on the list of America's most popular used cars in just one year. According to a new study, buyers are rediscovering the joy of basic transportation with the Malibu, which was previously available as a new car model but is now no longer in production.

The study found that rental fleets played a significant role in the surge, dumping thousands of Malibus onto the market when the model was cancelled. As a result, buyers flocked to purchase the affordable and comfortable sedan.

Other sedans, such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Civic, saw declines in popularity, while SUVs like the Chevrolet Equinox and Nissan Rogue gained traction. The Ford F-150 remained the top-selling used vehicle, followed closely by the Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500.

4 gained ground in popularity. Regional loyalty played a significant role in the sales figures, with some states favoring specific models.

The Malibu was the top choice in Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, and Virginia, while the Equinox dominated in Michigan and Indiana. As buyers continue to seek affordable and reliable transportation options, it will be interesting to see how the used car market evolves in the coming years.
