Volvo parent company Geely is set to complete production of its first in-house developed, all-solid-state battery pack this year. The new lithium manganese iron phosphate battery will achieve 15% higher energy density than conventional li-ion batteries and be installed in an existing EV platform for verification testing.

This marks another milestone in the development of solid-state battery technology by a Chinese electric automaker. Geely joins other Chinese brands like Dongfeng, FAW Group, and SAIC MG in developing a production-ready solid-state solution.

Solid-state batteries promise more energy capacity in a smaller, lighter battery pack that uses fewer exotic materials to produce. They also offer improved safety features, including reduced risk of catching fire.

This technology is expected to play a significant role in the future of electric vehicles. Geely's sister brands, Polestar and ZEEKR, are already showcasing impressive range and performance with their new electric models.

As ZEEKR arrives in America in a few years, it will likely be an all-solid-state brand. With this development, Geely Holding Group is solidifying its position as a leader in the electric vehicle industry.
