Genesis has unveiled its latest concept car, the X Skorpio, which is a spiritual rival to the short-lived Local Motors Rally Fighter. The Skorpio is an extreme off-road SUV with a long hood and dramatic two-line light design, similar to its predecessor, the X Gran Berlinetta concept.
However, unlike the Gran Berlinetta, the Skorpio features massive fenders, large enough to accommodate 40-inch off-road tires on 18-inch beadlock wheels. The car is powered by an almighty 1100-hp V-8 with 850 lb-ft of torque.
Genesis describes the cabin as focused on 'driver performance' and 'passenger comfort' in off-road adventuring, featuring a more luxurious interior than typical trophy trucks. Buyers hoping for a production X Skorpio may be waiting a very long time, as the brand has announced a comprehensive concept car strategy that emphasizes creating concepts to inspire passion for its vision rather than direct previews of any given product.
The announcement also includes off-roading builds based on existing models, such as the GV60 Outdoors Concept and GV70 Outdoors Concept. The Skorpio's design is inspired by a black scorpion in its defensive stance, with unique touches including a functional roof scoop and enormous LED fog lights beneath the car's signature two-line fascia.
The Genesis X Skorpio Concept showcases the brand's willingness to push boundaries and challenge conventional notions of what a sports car can be. With its extreme off-road capabilities and luxurious interior, it's clear that Genesis is committed to creating vehicles that are both functional and desirable.
