Caterpillar continues to upgrade its range of motor graders with the Next-Generation platform, introducing two new models: the Cat 150 and 160 Motor Graders. These machines are designed to tackle challenging projects with smarter controls, improved efficiency, and enhanced operator comfort.

The Cat 150 and 160 Motor Graders feature Caterpillar's easy-to-use joystick steering controls, which have been optional on the Cat 150 but now come as standard on the Cat 160. This new control system reduces hand and arm movements for the operator, resulting in reduced fatigue and improved productivity.

According to Eric Kohout, Caterpillar senior product consultant for motor graders, hours of ergonomic research led to the development of joystick controls, which redefine operator comfort by transferring control into two or three-axis joysticks. This innovative design allows for more precise machine direction and grading capabilities.

The joysticks on these new models place transmission, gear shifting, and machine-direction control on the left side, while the right side handles drawbar, circle, and moldboard functions as well as throttle control and manual differential lock and unlock. This intuitive layout enables operators to work more efficiently and effectively.

Both the Cat 150 and 160 offer precise control through nine forward and six reverse gears, with a new finish gear that allows for exacting grading results. The finish gear is used for the final stage of the grading process, ensuring a uniform and even surface that meets specific slope and elevation requirements.

The 150 model features a standard 12-foot moldboard, while the 160 model comes with a 14-foot moldboard as standard; upgrades are available to 14 and 16 feet. This increased moldboard capacity allows for more precise grading and improved productivity.

According to Kohout, the Next-Generation platform prioritizes efficiency, productivity, and operator comfort. These new models achieve these objectives by incorporating advanced technologies and innovative designs that enhance the overall user experience.

From a practical perspective, the new Cat 150 and 160 Motor Graders maintain the same dimensions as their predecessors while featuring a C9.3 engine that provides strong, consistent power to the ground. This ensures reliable performance in demanding construction projects.

The introduction of these all-new motor graders marks an important milestone for Caterpillar's Next-Generation platform, which is poised to revolutionize the industry with its cutting-edge technology and innovative designs.
