Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Gets Fifth Generation

Mar 31, 20262 min readCarscoops

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has undergone its fifth generation in just six years, with each iteration being more than just a minor facelift. These redesigns are a reflection of the rapid pace at which China's car industry is evolving, with consumers increasingly prioritizing electric vehicles and innovative features.

This latest version of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV boasts a redesigned exterior with a soft, almost sugar-cube look, while also stepping up inside with improved tech and a more polished cabin. The new design language is likely to appeal to buyers looking for a practical and affordable electric vehicle.

The micro EV has quietly become a runaway success in China, with cumulative sales surpassing 1.9 million units by the end of 2025. This version continues to widen its appeal with a more practical five-door layout, a bodystyle first introduced late in 2024 on the outgoing model.

Visually, the highlight is the new face with a more upright nose giving the car a friendlier, almost toy-like expression. Round LED headlights and taillights are linked by a chrome strip. The overall silhouette remains familiar, but every panel has been reworked and paired with a brighter, more playful color palette.

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is an excellent example of how China's car manufacturers are responding to changing consumer demands. With the country's growing focus on electric vehicles, it's no surprise that this model has become so popular.

Despite its modest size, the five-door version measures just 12 mm longer than before, while keeping the same 2,190 mm wheelbase. The two-door version remains the more compact option, coming in at 3,064 mm long with a 2,010 mm wheelbase.

The interior has also undergone significant changes, with a larger 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and slimmer climate vents. However, some features have been removed or relocated, such as physical climate controls, to optimize space between the front seats.

Cargo space is relatively modest, standing at 170 liters with the seats up, but expands to 838 liters when the rear bench is folded. The addition of 20 separate storage compartments throughout the cabin should help offset the Mini's compact footprint in everyday use.

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor, delivering just 40 hp and 85 Nm of torque. While performance may not be spectacular, the range on offer is more impressive, with up to 301 km of CLTC range on the higher battery pack.
