BMW's electric i3 sedan is making significant progress towards its launch, with the automaker showcasing photos of the first pre-series production models from its Munich plant. The car shown in the images is still partially hidden behind camouflage, but these official photos provide a detailed look at the new i3.

According to BMW, the development of the car is now complete, and the company is focusing on refining the assembly process ahead of the full launch. This will involve addressing any inefficiencies that may have arisen during production.

The first pre-series models have been built, which means that the powertrain and other key components have been thoroughly tested and validated. BMW has already launched its iX3 electric SUV, which should serve as a reference point for the i3's specifications.

In the 50 xDrive configuration, the iX3 features a 463-hp dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with a 112-kWh battery, resulting in an estimated EPA range of around 400 miles and charging speeds of up to 400 kilowatts. With these specs, the i3 should be able to add up to 230 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes.

As production nears completion, BMW is expected to remove the camouflage covering from the car soon. Full production of the electric sedan is scheduled for the second half of 2026, with a reveal event set to take place before that.

The i3's launch will mark an important milestone in BMW's efforts to expand its electric vehicle lineup.
