Feb 4, 20261 min readElectrek

BMW has successfully produced its first i3 Neue Klasse electric sedan, marking a significant milestone for the company's electric vehicle (EV) program. The new model is based on BMW's 800-volt Neue Klasse platform, which promises faster charging speeds and increased range compared to its predecessor.

With series production set to begin by the end of 2026, the i3 Neue Klasse is expected to be a major competitor in the EV market, particularly with its direct rival, the Tesla Model 3. The vehicle's performance is expected to be comparable to that of the iX3 SUV, which has already been launched.

The i3 Neue Klasse features BMW's next-gen electric motors and batteries, as well as new NMC batteries featuring Gen6 cylindrical cells, which are more energy-dense than its previous prismatic cells. With a WLTP range of up to 805 km (500 miles), the vehicle is expected to offer a longer driving range than its predecessor.
