The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Show has seen Nissan unveil its plans for a massive body-on-frame revolution. The company aims to increase sales to 1 million units by the end of 2027, which would be a significant improvement from last year's 873,307 units.
In the longer term, Nissan is reportedly working on five new models based on this platform. These include the Xterra, Frontier, Pathfinder, and two luxurious versions of these vehicles - one for Infiniti.
The Xterra is expected to arrive in 2028 and will be a rival to the Toyota 4Runner/Land Cruiser. The Infiniti variant will battle the Lexus GX.
Dealers describe the redesigned Xterra as having a muscular grille and big tires, while also being rugged and no-frills. This new body-on-frame approach should be great news for off-road enthusiasts, who will now have more options to compete with brands like Jeep and Ford.
Nissan has not forgotten about cars and crossovers either, with the redesigned Sentra recently launched and the existing Altima set to stick around until late next summer. The current Murano and Frontier will also benefit from trim level repricing and repackaging.
Additionally, a new Rogue e-Power is coming later this year.

This body-on-frame revolution has the potential to shake up the automotive industry, offering consumers more rugged and capable vehicles that can handle off-road adventures. With Nissan and Infiniti at the forefront, it will be interesting to see how these brands balance their new offerings with their existing models.
