Rivian, an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is expanding its digital key feature to include a dedicated Apple Watch app with remote controls and access capabilities. This new app allows users to lock, unlock, start, and control various aspects of their Rivian vehicles using their Apple Watches.
The app builds upon the existing digital car key feature, which was first introduced in December 2022 for iPhone users. With this latest update, Rivian is taking its functionality to the next level by bringing remote access and control capabilities to the wrist.
The new app is designed to work seamlessly with Gen 1 model EVs from 2021-2024, while Gen 2 models (2025 and later) can use the existing digital car key feature without needing the watch app. Rivian's move comes just over a year after Tesla released its own version of an Apple Watch app for remote controls.
