Mercedes-AMG has replaced its plug-in hybrid GLC 63 with a new, turbocharged inline six-powered GLC 53, which boasts impressive performance numbers and a more traditional driving experience. 0-liter engine producing 443 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, making it the sole go-faster version for now.
This move marks a shift away from the four-cylinder powertrains used in some of its other models, including the C-Class. 2 seconds and delivering a rich soundtrack.
The model also features advanced all-wheel drive technology and a range of convenience features. Despite being slower than its plug-in hybrid counterpart, AMG believes the overall driving experience will not disappoint.
The new GLC 53 is expected to land at a price point between the old GLC 43 and 63, with prices in the UK starting around £100k and in the US starting around $85,000. Additionally, an electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential and drift mode are available on certain trim levels.
A new C-Class model is also expected to follow suit, with a similar powertrain and features. Meanwhile, AMG is reportedly working on bringing back the 63 badge with a tuned version of its S-Class's flat-plane crank V8 engine.
