The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a recall of over 80,620 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models due to a potential issue with the rear coil springs. The affected vehicles are from the 2022-2023 model years for the Grand Cherokee and 2021-2023 model years for the Grand Cherokee L.
According to Jeep, the problem is that the rear coil springs may be incorrectly installed and detach from the vehicle while driving. This issue has been previously identified in other models of Grand Cherokees, but this new recall is partially in response to that.
5% of all Grand Cherokee and L models produced during this time period. Jeep suspects that the defect may be present on these vehicles due to a potential mistake in the repair process during the previous recall.

Detaching rear springs can pose serious safety hazards, including loss of control and road hazards for surrounding traffic. Fortunately, no field incidents have been reported, and owners will receive letters in the mail with instructions for the final remedy sometime around March this year.
The recall number is listed as '20D,' and owners can check their vehicle identification number to see if it's included.
This recall highlights the importance of following proper repair procedures to ensure the safety of vehicles on the road. It also emphasizes the need for manufacturers to thoroughly inspect and test their products before releasing them to consumers.
