Tim Kuniskis, the head of SRT, has indicated that the future of the Dodge Charger may hinge on a single V8 engine option. 7-liter V8 no longer holds its value in the current market, especially as Dodge's turbo inline-six engine has surpassed it in power.
Kuniskis recently showcased the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX, which features a new Hellcat engine that generates an impressive 777 hp and 680 lb-ft of torque, significantly outpacing the previous TRX and the Challenger SRT Hellcat. He emphasized that the only viable way to justify a V8 in the Charger would be to offer the high-performance Hellcat variant.
0-liter Hurricane inline-six. 7-liter V8 produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, making it less competitive compared to the Hurricane's 420 hp and 468 lb-ft.
4-liter Hemi V8 as well. While offering multiple engine options for the Charger is possible, Kuniskis pointed out that it may not be practical, as dealers would struggle to manage inventory effectively.
As the automotive landscape evolves, the focus on performance and efficiency continues to shape decisions regarding engine offerings, particularly in the muscle car segment.
