Kia's new midsize electric SUV, the EV5, is getting an overhaul. The exterior already looks improved, but the interior offers an unexpected surprise that has been spotted on a car carrier in Korea. This update is part of Kia's efforts to enhance its electric vehicle offerings and compete with top-selling models like the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7.
The EV5 facelift was recently spotted on a car carrier, revealing several new design updates. The headlights now feature Kia's signature three-prong design, similar to those found on the K4, K5, and EV3 models. This design element is expected to provide improved visibility and aerodynamics.
The front bumper has also been updated with a wider, more aggressive design, reminiscent of the EV5 WKNDR Concept unveiled at last year's Guangzhou Auto Show in China. This redesign aims to give the EV5 a more adventurous look, which will appeal to customers looking for a rugged off-road experience.
From the rear, the new design is even more similar to the WKNDR concept, with a complete bumper redesign and new wheels that add to the rugged feel. These updates are expected to enhance the overall appearance of the EV5 and make it more competitive in the market.
The interior has also undergone significant changes, thanks to a new video from HealerTV. The updated setup features Hyundai's new Pleos infotainment system and OS, which is similar to what can be found in other Hyundai vehicles equipped with Pleos. This new setup provides improved user experience and connectivity options.
One notable feature of the updated interior is the instrument display, which is now slightly lower than on Hyundai vehicles and stretches all the way to the passenger seat. This design choice aims to provide a more immersive driving experience for passengers.
According to reports, the updated EV5 may feature an 800V electric system rather than the current 400V, which would significantly improve charging speeds. This upgrade addresses one of the major flaws in the current model and is expected to make it more competitive in the market.
The EV5's dimensions have also been tweaked, with a length increase of around 10 mm, a width increase of 70 mm, and a height increase of 30 mm compared to the Kia Sportage. Despite these changes, the EV5 remains relatively spacious, offering 'best-in-class' rear passenger space with up to 1,041 mm of second-row legroom.
The updated EV5 is expected to launch in early 2027, and prototypes are currently undergoing testing. With its improved design, new infotainment system, and potential upgrade to an 800V electric system, the EV5 is poised to be a major player in the global electric vehicle market.
