BOEM Unveils Third Gulf of America Lease Sale

Feb 19, 20261 min readMarineLink News

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has announced a Proposed Notice of Sale for the third offshore oil and gas lease sale under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, marking another significant milestone in the Gulf of America's leasing history. This proposed sale, known as Lease Sale Big Beautiful Gulf 3, or BBG3, is scheduled to take place on August 12, 2026. The announcement comes after two previous lease sales, BBG1 and BBG2, which have helped establish a predictable schedule for offshore leasing. By committing to regular sales, the Department aims to expand American energy production and strengthen U.S. energy dominance. This move is in line with President Trump's promise to promote responsible energy leadership. The proposed sale will offer approximately 15,066 unleased blocks covering 80.4 million acres on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf in the Gulf of America, spanning water depths from 9 feet to over 11,100 feet. The blocks are located between 3 and 231 miles offshore and will be subject to a competitive 12.5% royalty rate. This rate is expected to attract more investors and stimulate economic growth in the region.
