The 2026 Toyota RAV4 has undergone a comprehensive overhaul, ditching last year's nonhybrid powertrains in favor of a hybrid-only lineup. This move is likely aimed at attracting environmentally conscious buyers and reducing emissions. The RAV4 Hybrid offers up to 236 horsepower, while the PHEV model boasts a claimed 50-mile electric driving range.
The new RAV4 also features an adventure-ready Woodland trim with more ground clearance and all-terrain tires, as well as a GR Sport trim tuned by Toyota Gazoo Racing. These trims will likely appeal to outdoor enthusiasts and driving enthusiasts alike. The RAV4's practical interior still seats five passengers and offers plenty of cargo space.
However, if you're looking for the best value in the standard hybrid lineup, we recommend considering the SE model. It adds desirable features like heated front seats, a blind-spot monitoring system, and 18-inch wheels. In contrast, the plug-in hybrid is more desirable overall due to its more powerful setup but comes at a higher price point.

The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that combine for 226 horsepower. If you opt for all-wheel drive, a third electric motor is added to drive the rear axle, resulting in 236 ponies. The PHEV models get even more power with 320 horsepower combined.
The GR Sport trim will be the sportiest, with a suspension tuned by Toyota Gazoo Racing, summer tires, and a reworked power steering system. When we drove the standard RAV4 Hybrid, we found its acceleration to be responsive but not particularly enjoyable due to the noisy gasoline engine. In contrast, the PHEV model feels quicker and more fun to drive.
The all-wheel-drive RAV4 Hybrid got to 60 mph in just 7.1 seconds, which is faster than the old model. We estimate that the Plug-In Hybrid will get to 60 mph in a swift 5.2 seconds. Toyota estimates it gets 44 mpg in its most efficient configuration, the LE Hybrid.

The RAV4 offers up to 3500 pounds of max towing capacity, making it suitable for those who need to haul heavy loads. However, front-wheel drive models and the all-wheel-drive LE trim can only tow 1750 pounds.
One notable feature is the plug-in hybrid's claimed electric driving range of up to 52 miles per charge, which can be recharged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes on a DC fast charger. However, this feature is only available on certain trims.
The Toyota RAV4 is one of the most popular compact SUVs in the US market, and its latest redesign for 2026 promises to keep it at the top of the list.
