Volvo's new EX60, unveiled in Sweden, aims to tackle the common barriers to electric vehicle adoption: driving range, charging time, and cost. With a remarkable range of up to 400 miles, the EX60 is positioned to appeal to those hesitant about transitioning to electric. The vehicle is expected to have a base price in the low to mid $50,000 range, aligning it closely with the gas-powered XC60, though it is important to note that the two models will differ significantly in performance and features.

The EX60 is set to enter production in Gothenburg, Sweden, later this year, representing a significant step forward for Volvo in its commitment to electric mobility. The model showcases an evolutionary design and introduces a completely new interior design language, reflecting the automaker's vision for the future. With three distinct powertrains available, the EX60 will offer a base P6 and P10 AWD, with the longer-range P12 AWD following suit. Each variant will come in either a base Plus or a more luxurious Ultra trim, catering to a range of consumer preferences.

The EX60 will also feature a rugged Cross Country model next year, expanding its appeal to different lifestyles. Beneath its sleek exterior, the EX60 is equipped with in-house designed electric motors powered by various battery packs: an 83-kWh (80-kWh usable) for the P6, a 95-kWh (91-kWh usable) for the P10 AWD, and a 117-kWh (112-kWh usable) for the P12 AWD. This configuration allows for estimated driving ranges of 310 miles for the P6, 320 miles for the P10 AWD, and an impressive 400 miles for the P12 AWD when equipped with 20-inch wheels.

The EX60 employs a next-generation 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling fast-charging capabilities of up to 370 kW. This means that in the P12 AWD variant, the vehicle can gain up to 173 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging. For the P6 and P10 AWD models, charging from 10-80% can be achieved in approximately 18 to 19 minutes. This impressive charging speed is likely to alleviate consumer concerns about the practicality of EV ownership, making the EX60 a compelling option for those new to electric vehicles.
